Since I last wrote, great progress has been made. There was overwhelming support for the revised playing field scheme. We’ve considered all feedback & amended plans accordingly. The only thing we could not do was re-site the path to the other side of the field, as we felt people would use the
Update 4 (August) on progress with development of Recreation field
shortest route and create their own unofficial path in this case.
Our planning application (number 2015/1310) has been submitted. Comments close on 8.8.15, so we wait & see with fingers crossed. Copies of the plans, pictures of the play equipment & images of how the finished playground will look can be found on the City and County of Swansea Planning Portal; on our website http://llangennith-hall.co.uk/ or on the hall field notice board outside the Hall. Hopefully this application will proceed without issue. We need to make a ‘material start’ on the field development by 30.9.15 for Lottery Funding requirements & would prefer to develop this scheme, rather than the original planning permission Llangennith Hall Committee inherited, when we bought the field from Llangennith Recreational Trust.
On 14th July, John Alexander and his JCB dug five 3 Metre holes in the field, to investigate the soil type and drainage conditions, under the watchful eye of Charlotte, an Archaeologist from Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust. I’m pleased to report the soil was well draining & Charlotte says the site was the
cleanest she ever worked on – not even a piece of broken china or sign of charcoal! It appears the Hall field has been pasture land for centuries.
Alice in Wonderland rehearsals are progressing well. Young people and adults from Youth Club & the local community are acting; making props, scenery & costumes; or preparing for jam tart and cake baking. There is a wonderful atmosphere in rehearsals and prop making sessions. All proceeds towards the playground & field development. The Show will be on Friday 21st August, 7:30pm & Saturday 22nd August, 2:30pm. Tickets £8 adult, £4 child or Family of 4 £20 can be bought from me (386322), Fay (386671) & Dilys (386314). Let’s hope they sell like hot cakes! I do hope you can join us for fun, frolics and feasting. I’ll be the one dressed as the clock!
