Dru Yoga classes are run in the main hall every Thursday morning from 10.00am to 11.30am.  These classes are suitable for beginners as well as experinece Yoga practioners.

Cost is £8 per session ‘drop-in’ rate or £6 per session for a month’s classes in advance or a Yoga ‘passport’, 10 sessions paid for to be taken within a 15 week period.  For more information, please contact Jan Hilditch on 01792-386626.

Dru Yoga is a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. The Sanskrit word 'Dru' means ‘North Star’, it also translates as 'still point', that calm, quiet space which can free us from the stresses and strains of modern life.

With its foundations set firmly in ancient yogic tradition, Dru works on body, mind and spirit. Physically it improves general strength and flexibility; it also develops core stability, protecting and promoting a healthy spine. Dru classes are relaxing; many movements are practised with awareness, co-ordinating body and breath. Emotionally this builds a heightened feeling of positivity, rejuvenation and well-being.

Typically Dru classes will include: activations, movement sequences for core strength and flexibility, postures, pranayama (breath techniques). The sessions always end with a deep relaxation.

Dru Yoga is inclusive, designed to be practised by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups. (It is not a form of yoga that can only be accessed by very bendy people who look good in lycra!). Modifications to suit different abilities and fitness levels are always demonstrated in classes. There is a strong emphasis on the importance of listening to your own body on any given day, on stretching but never straining. On a personal level, as a Dru Yoga teacher, I have found that clients as diverse as O.A.Ps, at a day-care centre and active young men, wanting to improve balance and flexibility for surfing, have enjoyed the physical and mental benefits this form of yoga can offer.
