To develop the field, the Hall Committee has obtained the necessary planning permission and has been successful in applying for a grant from Big Lottery People and Places to create the following:
a children’s wooden play area for tots to teens (in the middle of the field), sympathetic to the natural surroundings and neighbouring properties. This would provide the only public play area for miles around and a safe place for children & young people to play, off the roads.
A drained and levelled informal sports area (at the bottom of the field), with portable sports equipment and a secure storage area for this. A place for the community to use safely. (There will be no lights, or built up urban style facility)
A landscaped grass area which will allow us to run more community events in the hall field (at the top of the field and around the sides of the field as well as the bottom level area) We currently have a successful annual Easter Egg Hunt and special events such as the Jubilee but we would like to see a Summer Fun Day and an area for all ages to use whilst the children are in the park etc.
A reliable, efficient ground source heat pump heating and hot water system for the hall, to replace our old, expensive and ineffective oil system
A new, less steep, ramp and access to the field from behind the hall, so that pushchairs and wheel chairs can access easily.
The next time you are near the hall, take a look at what has been achieved. We will endeavour to have it cut regularly throughout the season and have purchased a ride-on mower to help us do so. We are hoping and expecting that it will fulfil its potential as an asset to the village.
The first use for the field was as the venue for an Easter Egg Hunt which was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. This has been repeated since. In its first year, the field was used for a weekend camp by a group of cubs from Cardiff; they had a brilliant Saturday but a real downpour on the Sunday, luckily the hall provided dry space backup and the cubs reported that they had a wonderful time in Llangennith. More and more children are finding the field to be a good place to play and, as outlined above, the Hall Committee is seeking funding to put more play facilities on the field.
We hope that many more ventures will now take place on the field and the committee would welcome suggestions as to its use.
Please walk on our grass! Llangennith Hall Committee has taken on the ownership of the field behind the Village Hall. For the first time in several years the grass and brambles have been cut and the field is now a lovely grassy activity area. We hope and would like to encourage the field to be used by villagers, especially by children as a safe place to play.
